Hello!

Erica Maria Littlejohn is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Chicago, Illinois. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she is currently a part-time lecturer in the Fiber and Material Studies department. She received a double Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art and Italian Language and Literature from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH.

Guided by the following questions–What role do objects have in the creation and proliferation of national pride and identity? How do we imbue objects with meaning? What are the implications of labor as it relates to craft and the African Diaspora?–she explores the nuances of liminal identity and the re-narrativizing of marginalized histories using archival and found materials. The hybridity of Littlejohn’s work also serves to confront the contradictory and liminal nature of a biracial identity.

Through the various media she uses in her practice, Littlejohn seeks to create space for community engagement in conversations about the multiplicity of Black identity and culture.
